Former Liverpool star believes £70m-rated Tottenham target is better off at current club

Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol believes that Wilfried Zaha’s time with Manchester United will play a huge role regarding his future.

The Crystal Palace winger is being linked with a move to Tottenham after a wonderful season with the Eagles, however, Nicol believes the former United man is at the right club and would not like a move to Tottenham.

Nicol was quoted by the Express as saying:

“In my opinion, Zaha is absolutely perfect where he is. I think when he went to Manchester United, the spotlight was too big for him and he couldn’t handle it.

“If Zaha’s been offered to Spurs and he has the opportunity, I think he’s going to start thinking about Manchester United and how it all went wrong and how he couldn’t handle it.”

Nicol also added that Zaha loves playing for the Eagles and that he would not be going anywhere, not even to Tottenham.

The former Liverpool man does have a valid point about Zaha not cutting it when he joined Manchester United in 2013 and was loaned back to Palace for a season.

He did struggle to perform for the Red Devils but his permanent move back to Palace has shown that he can be devastating on his day.

The 25-year-old is someone we could do with ahead of next season as we have still not brought in players to bolster the squad. The problem might be his price point, with Palace looking to make the most of the winger, asking for a reported fee of £70million.

Zaha could be looking to prove that he can do the job for one of the top clubs in the league and Tottenham certainly are on course to becoming the best side in the country.

Joining Spurs would be great for Zaha as he would work under Mauricio Pochettino but with the transfer window shutting on 9th August and with barely anytime left to negotiate, we might have to pay over the top for the 25-year-old.
