Mauricio Pochettino was not willing to discuss the future of Fernando Llorente after the Spaniard scored a brace in our 4-1 win over AS Roma in the International Champions Cup.

Tottenham were missing a number of their players after the World Cup and while we had conceded early on in the game, Llorente struck twice before Lucas Moura grabbed a brace to give us a 4-1 lead at half-time.

The match ended with the same scoreline and Pochettino was then asked if Llorente was a part of the plans in the upcoming season.

Pochettino was quoted by Football.london as saying:

“I’m not going to talk about individual situations because if I’m going to talk now about someone I need to talk about everyone.

“They are working so hard. The pre-season is a little bit different to before because of the World Cup and we’ve got so many players away. But it’s massive opportunity for them to show and fight for one place in the starting XI.”

The manager also added that there are many rumours regarding the players and that he did not want to talk about them all. The Argentine added that everyone was focussing on the season ahead and trying to get into form.

Llorente has been linked with a move away from Tottenham but we do not have many options as back-up for Harry Kane should the Englishman need a rest.

Furthermore, Kane would be coming back from an extended break due to his World Cup exploits and it would make sense for us to keep hold of Llorente for now.

The Spaniard could stake a claim for a place in the XI should he continue scoring in the pre-season and if he does that, he might just stay at Tottenham for a little longer.
