Tottenham’s executive director Donna-Maria Cullen has claimed that the club’s transfer dealings will not be affected despite moving to the new £850m stadium. (h/t Daily Mail)
Spurs have not signed a single player in the summer window so far but Cullen was quick to suggest that the club has always worked on a tight budget.
The executive director also added that the move to the new stadium was to help generate more revenue from matchday proceedings, something that our rivals have been doing for a few years.
Cullen also added that with all the revenues coming in, reinvestment in the first-team would take place. She also rubbished rumours of Daniel Levy not willing to spend any money to bring players in.
“No, no,” she said. “That is a misconception. Daniel works closely with the managers and he always has done.
“He clearly identifies targets, works to get them and we are no different to other clubs in occasionally not being able to acquire who might be top of your list for whatever reason. There are so many moving parts of the whole scenario.”
Tottenham have often suffered when it comes to matching some of the matchday earnings generated by the likes of Manchester United and more recently, Arsenal, since their move to the Emirates.
However, with a new stadium being built, we should be on equal footing with the other big clubs in the league. Tottenham already have a world-class manager in Mauricio Pochettino and a quality team that is ready to challenge for the trophies.
With a new home that can house more fans, the additional revenue should be used more prudently in the coming years when it comes to signing big name players for the club.
