Son Heung-min has apologised to Tottenham since he is leaving the side to participate in the Asian Games with the South Korean national side.
The 26-year-old wants to return with a Gold medal as it could help him avoid compulsory military service.
The former Bayer Leverkusen man was quoted by Football.london as saying:
“I feel sorry because Tottenham is my team and I feel very sorry to be leaving my team-mates,” he said. But I am playing for my country and that is also important. But honestly I feel very sorry about that. That is what I feel.”
Son will play our season opener against Newcastle on 11th August but will then leave for Indonesia where the football tournament ends on 1st September.
The 26-year-old did not want to talk about the Military service but he did claim he was going to win the gold, something which South Korea did four years ago.
Son was not a part of that team which won 4 years back as Leverkusen did not release the player.
“We are going there to win something and winning trophies for my country is always good. I am going there to win something, to win games. I don’t travel there for nothing.”
For our sake, Son needs to pick up the gold as losing him for two years would more or less end his time at the club.

Son is a vital cog in the current Tottenham side under Mauricio Pochettino but for a few weeks, all the Spurs fans will be rooting for the South Korean side.
