Former Tottenham star claims new stadium is not the reason why Spurs did not sign players

Ex-Tottenham star believes Emerson Royal and Ben Davies will continue to be crucial for the team this season.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas does not believe that our move to the new stadium is the reason why Tottenham did not sign a new player in the summer window.

Tottenham are the only club to have not brought in a new player this summer and the Englishman was quick to suggest that we did not move for a second or third choice signing.

Jenas was speaking to the BBC and also said that our manager was given the money to make signings:

”Yes, Spurs had to stay within certain boundaries, but Pochettino was given the finances to go and get what he needed – it was just that Spurs were not able to get those deals over the line, and there was not much point in them going for their second or third choices.”

The former Spurs man also wanted us to sign someone who could go past a player, such as Wilfried Zaha.

However, the Englishman still had high hopes for Lucas Moura, who started in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the opening day of the season. He said,

“Moura was not used as much as I thought he would be last season, but he has had a very good pre-season and started Saturday’s win over Newcastle. He will be like a brand new signing, and I am expecting to see a lot more of him.”

There were some words of warning for Tottenham as Jenas claimed that Manchester United could target Pochettino should Jose Mourinho leave the Red Devils.

While not signing a player isn’t a great outcome from the transfer window, Jenas’ comments do make sense. Spurs should not be wasting money on players who wouldn’t be the first choice for us and maybe, playing the waiting game yields us better signings on the long run.
