Kieran Trippier scored an incredible free-kick in our win over Fulham at Wembley. The England star repeated his trick from England’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia, however, some of the Tottenham players weren’t sure he could curl it in.
The England defender was quoted by ESPN after the game as saying,
“Some of the boys saw me shaping up to take it and said ‘is it not a bit too far out?’ That made me question my decision and think ‘is it a bit too far out?’
“But the decision had already been made and I tried to block the keeper’s view as much as possible by telling the boys to get in the wall. I’m happy it went in.”
Trippier further shared that Christian Eriksen is the first-choice free-kick taker at Tottenham but the Dane allowed the Englishman to take this one.
The right-back conceded that Eriksen is better at curling the ball into the net but Trippier was confident of scoring from the position against the Cottagers.
“It’s just about confidence and believing in your own ability. If you hit it over the wall you’ve got every chance of it going in.”
Trippier scored at an important time for us as we were level with Fulham in the 74th minute. The goal from our right-back opened the gates a bit as Harry Kane scored his first Premier League goal in August and made the points safe for the side.

It is important for Tottenham to have a quality alternative to Eriksen for set-piece duty. And with Trippier’s form getting better since the World Cup, we might have two of the best dead-ball specialists in the league.
