Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that luck played a part in Kieran Trippier’s rise to the top, as per Football.london. The English right-back had a wonderful season at Tottenham as he replaced Kyle Walker as the first-choice last year.
The former Burnley man then had a brilliant World Cup with the Three Lions and scored a delightful free-kick in the semi-final against Croatia.
Pochettino was quoted by Football.london where he added that the club tries to improve players but luck is a factor as well.
“Sometimes things happen, sometimes you’re lucky and of course when we signed Kieran, we were trying to challenge Walker.
“We improve them and give them better tools to improve, but sometimes we need luck too and he deserves the credit because he made the effort to improve and step up his career.”
Trippier was on target in our win over Fulham via an exquisite free-kick. However, Pochettino was asked about our other right-back, Serge Aurier, and his prospects of playing.
The former PSG man started our opening clash of the season against Newcastle and Pochettino claimed that the Ivorian will get his chance.
“We feel to perform and keep the same level you need players that need to wait for their opportunity.
“There are a lot of games to play and the Premier League is so competitive, injuries, tiredness, if you compete in the Champions League and cups, I think international games too it’s important to have a competitive squad.”
Trippier and Aurier certainly have upped their game since coming to Tottenham and the pair needs to be at its best if we are to challenge for laurels in the coming years.
