Former Tottenham defender Sol Campbell believes a lack of summer signings will be the undoing for the club this season.
Spurs were the only side not to sign players in the summer window and the former defender claimed even a single new face could have changed things up.
Campbell was quoted by the Express as saying:
“The problem is that when teams don’t spend money, teams set up against you the same as they did last season and they don’t have to work you out again.
“They know what they are going up against. Just one or two new players can have you rethinking all your plans. They bring a different type of football to the game and different attributes and the other team have to think, ‘We’ve got to watch out for this or that’.”
Tottenham lost their 100% winning record against Watford as the Hornets subjected us to a 2-1 defeat.
The Englishman further highlighted the fact that Tottenham had five strikers during his time at the club. Campbell added that competition for places keeps players on their toes and provides cover, should someone pick up an injury or a suspension.
Tottenham have one of the best XIs in the Premier League but Campbell has a fair point regarding the opposition learning how to deal with our style of play.
