Stuart Pearce believes Harry Kane’s form for the Three Lions at the World Cup is a problem for Tottenham.
Kane won the Golden Boot in Russia and has two goals from four games this season. Pearce did claim that winning the Golden Boot is “special” but while speaking to the Debate (h/t Sky Sports), the former Manchester City man believed Kane got tired through the tournament.
“But I think his performances over the seven games were OK and the longer the tournament went on, the more his performances diminished in many ways.”
Pearce further spoke about England struggling when Kane didn’t score and how teams are dealing with his threat at the national and club level.
“If he doesn’t score the goals for England I would worry about where we’re going to go as a national team.
“There’s a new-found respect for him and that means defenders are on high alert, which will nullify him in some ways. And secondly, when you play against Tottenham now, because people respect them as one of the big six, they defend a lot deeper and there’s less room. I don’t think that suits Dele Alli or Harry Kane.”
Kane did break his August duck in the Premier League this season but he hasn’t looked as sharp as the previous term. The England captain isn’t the only player struggling for form, however, as Dele Alli only has a single goal to his name from four games.

Tottenham’s next clash is against Liverpool and Kane’s performances for England during the international break could be important for us. Should the striker bag a couple of goals, he could come with reinforced confidence and possibly hammer the Reds at Wembley.
