Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has claimed that he never wanted to leave the club. The Belgian was linked with a move to Manchester United (h/t Sky Sports) but the Belgian was quoted saying that the media isn’t right all the time.
The former Ajax man was quoted by Sky Sports as saying:
“Everyone was saying everywhere that I absolutely wanted to leave Tottenham.
“That’s not true. This summer, I quickly understood Tottenham wanted to keep me. So, I had to battle to get my place back in the team. To be in the first team again is a victory for me.
“I just try to help Tottenham as best I can with my qualities. Regarding my future, everything that was said in the press was not right all the time.”
Alderweireld has started the last three games for us and Tottenham have an option to extend his current deal by another year, as per Sky Sports.
A number of Tottenham fans wanted the defender to sign a new contract and extend his stay while some had their doubts about the comments from the Belgian.
