Tottenham lost their second game of the season to title rivals Liverpool, and we were poor throughout the 90 minutes.
Liverpool could have scored five goals against us but we shot ourselves a couple of times as poor defending and goalkeeping ensured the Reds secured a two-goal lead.
We didn’t threaten their defence enough and although Erik Lamela scored a late goal, it just was not going to be our night.
There were a few poor performances at Wembley but one player who really struggled was Eric Dier. The Englishman gave the ball away a number of times and was lucky the Liverpool players weren’t at their best.
Some Twitter users were really upset with the defensive midfield and shared their reactions to his performance against the Reds.
Dier is nowhere near good enough.

Eric Dier is the horrendous player people think Jordan Henderson is

That was truly awful from Spurs. The Watford defeat was cowardly, this one was naive and stupid. Woeful passing, even worse defensive positioning from the wingbacks. Harry Kane may as well be a cardboard cutout. Dier and Rose were a shadow of their themselves. Urgh

Can’t believe there was once a time when United were rumored to bid ~£50m for Eric Dier. So average on the ball. Doesn’t offer nearly enough.
Central midfield was the area Spurs desperately needed to improve and they haven’t. It’s costing them.

Eric Dier’s having a real Sideshow Bob gets hit in the head with rakes of a day.

Dier getting a second smack of the ball the round off a forgettable performance

Eric Dier has been bloody awful today.

Watch plenty of football, but can’t understand what Eric Dier brings to the table for Spurs or England.
Doesn’t score, doesn’t pass forward, doesn’t defend well – anonymous today. Couldn’t lace James Milner’s boots. #TOTLIV

We got offered 40 million pound sterling for Eric Dier and turned it down 😭

Eric Dier has got to be one of the worst midfielders in the league. Offers nothing to anything.
— Connor (@TikiTakaConnor) September 15, 2018
Would Spurs be significantly worse/the same/not much different if Dier went in goal and Worm played in midfield?
