Harry Winks got his first start of the season against Liverpool and the Englishman’s rise in the Tottenham side has been well-documented.
Mauricio Pochettino has a history of working well with youngsters and the manager had some words of praise for the Englishman.
Pochettino was speaking to the media before the Liverpool match and had this to say about Winks (h/t Metro):
“When we talk about midfielders like Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta, he’s like this type of player, but, please, he needs to take my words in a very positive way. He needs a lot of work.”
Winks missed a chunk of last season with an injury but he is one of the brightest players in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old does have a lot of work to do before he can be compared to the Spanish greats but some of the fans weren’t sure about Poch’s comments.

That’s embarrassing.
Stop overhyping players to be something that they’re not.

High praise indeed!
Let’s just hope he’s not building him too much and will just end up being a bitter disappointment!— David Moulsdale (@DMoulsdale86) September 14, 2018
He has the drive and the ability to succeed. Only thing holding him back is that fucking ankle. Still won’t forgive those shitty water bottles.
