Tottenham will be without Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld for the clash against Inter Milan.
Spurs take on the Italian giants in their opening Champions League game tonight and Mauricio Pochettino wasn’t going into details as to why they were left out.
The Argentine was speaking to the media on Monday and was quoted by ESPN saying:
“We still have out Hugo Lloris, Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko. They are in London.
“Then a technical decision in London — Toby Alderweireld and Kieran Trippier.”
Lloris, Alli and Sissoko are all dealing with injuries but not playing Alderweireld and Trippier is a head-scratcher.
The pair started in our 2-1 loss against Watford and Pochettino added that this was not a punishment for their performances.
“We have ahead of a lot of games. We came from difficult circumstances with the World Cup. We have a plan to give different players a rest in all competitions.”
Playing at San Siro is never easy and our results from the previous two Premier League games leave a lot to be desired.
Tottenham performed brilliantly last season in the group stages and have to do the same this time as well.
A number of fans weren’t sure about what to make of Poch’s plans for the dropped pair and here are their reactions from Twitter.
Technical/tactical decision my ass. I’m convinced that Toby and Trippier has had opinions that Poch didn’t like. This is a disciplinary measure, for sure. Excuse my English, it’s not that good.

I assume dropping Alderweireld and Trippier from the squad is because of fitness. They were the only 2 World Cup players not to play on the opening day v Newcastle.
Officially rested.
Shame we can’t rest them all!#thfc #coys @SpursOfficial

Not sure it was much of an explanation, just had the hump & spoke in riddles.

Not fully in meltdown over Trippier and Alderweireld being left at home.
Sanchez and Aurier were always likely to play vs Inter anyway so don’t know what the big deal is.
Not like the pair of them are in imperious form.#THFC #COYS

Toby was the reason we didn’t get embarrassed on Saturday

Not sure why our best centre half Toby Alderweireld and our best right back Kieran Trippier are being left at home for a Champions League tie.
Even if they weren’t going to start they surely would have helped to come off the bench against Inter Milan #COYS— Harry C (@HazSpur92) September 17, 2018
Is leaving Trippier and Alderweireld out a message to Levy and the board from Pochettino? #COYS

2 World Cup Semi Finalists being left at home, nothing in it.

We get told @HKane is tired then he rests other players and everyone goes crazy asking why the big drama

In our biggest game of the season so far, you don’t leave your best players at home. Fact.
