Tottenham celebrate Carabao Cup win over Watford

Tottenham needed penalties to get one over Watford in our Carabao Cup clash at Stadium MK. We weren’t playing at Wembley due to the unavailability of the stadium but a huge crowd turned up to support Spurs.

The match was filled with drama after a poor first-half by Spurs. Watford scored through Isaac Success and Spurs were reduced to 10 men as Serge Aurier had to be taken off due to an injury.

The home side had made all three substitutes by then but the Hornets made things even when Christian Kabasele was sent off for fouling Dele Alli in the box.

The former MK Dons player was the captain for the evening and he duly converted the spot-kick before Erik Lamela scored to put us 2-1 up.

Etienne Capoue had one more trick up his sleeve as he scored in the 89th minute to send the tie to penalties.

Spurs were perfect from the spot and Paulo Gazzaniga saved efforts from Capoue and Domingos Quina to keep the club in the competition.

This was a crazy match, to say the least, and here are the Tottenham player ratings from Stadium MK.

Paulo Gazzaniga – 8.5/10

The Argentine performed brilliantly as he made three decent saves in normal time and produced a couple of saves in the penalty shootout as well.

Serge Aurier – 7/10

Aurier might have left the field early in the second half but he made a superb block to deny Watford a goal in the first half and even produced some quality crosses during his time on the pitch.

Toby Alderweireld – 7/10

The central defender did his bit at the back well and his passing was on point during the game.

Davinson Sanchez – 6.5/10

The Colombian produced an average performance and looked a little out of sorts during the final moments of normal time.

Ben Davies – 5/10

This is not the Ben Davies from last season. The Welshman made a number of errors at the back but luckily, Watford could not score from any of them.

Victor Wanyama – 5.5/10

The Kenyan looked off the pace in the game and needs more minutes on the pitch before we see the best of him.

Harry Winks – 6.5/10

Winks is another player who needs more time on the pitch but the youngster demanded the ball and tried to make things happen.

Moussa Sissoko – 6/10

Sissoko wasn’t great in the midfield but he didn’t make too many errors and created a chance for Dele Alli.

Dele Alli – 8/10

The Englishman returned to his old stomping ground and could have scored another goal besides the penalty. Alli was brilliant in the second half for Spurs.

Erik Lamela – 8.5/10

Another game, another goal for Lamela. We are seeing the best of the Argentine as he scored a late equaliser for Tottenham.

Lucas Moura – 6.5/10

The Brazilian isn’t used to leading the line but he tried his best. However, things weren’t coming off for him and he was replaced by Llorente in the second half.

Substitutes

Mousa Dembele – 6/10

The Belgian created the second goal for Spurs and looked decent in the midfield.

Son Heung-min – 6/10

Son didn’t have a lot of time to showcase his abilities but looked good and slotted in his penalty too.

Fernando Llorente – 6/10

The Spaniard had chances to score in normal time but couldn’t take them. Llorente did convert his penalty with ease in the shootout.
