Marca (h/t The Sun) reports that Mauricio Pochettino met with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez at the FIFA awards this week.
The report adds that the Spanish giants were lining up Pochettino as a replacement for Zinedine Zidane but Pochettino ended up signing a new contract with us.
Real got Julen Lopetegui as their manager while the report adds that this meeting was nothing more than to “catch up”.
The Argentine did claim that he was happy at the club and told El Confidencial (h/t The Sun):
“When Real Madrid call you, you have to listen to them.
“Although in this case it doesn’t depend on me. I have just signed a long contract with Tottenham and I am very happy here.”
The manager further claimed that Spurs allow him to work as he wants and although there would be rumours of Madrid, he had nothing to add.
Spurs have become one of the best teams in England under the Argentine and it comes as no surprise that the top clubs are keeping tabs on the former Southampton and Espanyol manager.
Tottenham have an incredible man at the helm and must do everything to keep hold of the manager for as long as possible.
