Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld was asked about his contract situation at Spurs recently, but the Belgian didn’t want to dig deep into that subject.
The 29-year-old is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and was quoted by Nieuwsblad (Football.london) as saying:
“Honestly, I’m not thinking about it at the moment.
“I feel good and I’m playing so I’m happy. We’ll see what happens.”
Football.london reports that the Belgian is out of contract next season but Tottenham can extend his stay by another year.
However, the extension would mean that Alderweireld would be available for a fee of £25m, as per the report.
The Belgian was linked (h/t Football.london) with a move away to Manchester United in the summer but ultimately remained at Tottenham.
The report adds that previous talks between the player and the club over a new contract have broken down.
Alderweireld has been rock-solid for Spurs this season with seven Premier League starts to his name. Tottenham are just a couple of points behind the Premier League leaders after eight games, and the Belgian will be a key figure in our title challenge.
The 29-year-old has been professional with his conduct on and off the pitch and is giving his best for Spurs.

Hopefully, both parties can reach a solution that keeps Alderweireld at Spurs for a number of years to come.
