Real Madrid are interested in making Mauricio Pochettino their manager by the end of next month, according to the Sun.

The current Champions League holders sacked Julen Lopetegui after their humiliating loss to Barcelona at the weekend. The report adds that player power stopped former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte signing for Madrid.

Former Real Madrid star Santiago Solari has been named as the interim boss at the club. The report adds that representatives from Real Madrid met with “people” close to the Tottenham manager in London last week.

Pochettino hasn’t openly stated that he would leave Tottenham but saw his side lose 1-0 to Manchester City on Monday.

The loss meant Spurs are five points behind the Premier League leading duo of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Real had Zinedine Zidane at the helm, and the Frenchman led them to three Champions League titles in a row before leaving the side at the start of the season.

Lopetegui was snatched from the Spanish national side, and the manager was sacked from La Furia Roja just before the start of the World Cup.

Madrid need to get a quality manager into the club to save their sinking season. The La Liga giants are ninth in the league and have won just four out of 10 games.

There is no doubt that Real will be pushing for a top manager, and Pochettino certainly fits that billing.
