Hugo Lloris has told Tottenham they have to improve after Wolverhampton Wanderers staged a late fightback on Saturday.

Spurs were comfortable with a 3-0 lead but late penalties from the home side made the score 3-2. We held on for the three points, but the captain wanted us to get better.

Lloris was quoted by Sky Sports as saying:

“We need to learn. It is not the first time this has happened in the Champions League and in the league that the opponent created chances in the last minutes of the game. It is something we need to improve.”

The captain added that finishing off the game was the responsibility of the players, with the manager and staff providing the players with the right tools.

Lloris also wanted the side to change their style to see out games.

“If we have to play a different way, we have to play a different way. We could have managed the game in another way. At 3-0, you do not have to press. It is about communications, feelings and is more up to the players.”

This isn’t the first time we have been put under pressure and conceded after taking a lead. We have seen PSV Eindhoven and Inter Milan score against us late on in games, which has put our Champions League qualification in doubt.

Lloris will miss the PSV fixture on Tuesday due to his red card against the Dutch team in the reverse tie.

Tottenham have to get all three points in midweek or their Champions League journey could come to a premature end.
