Tottenham have been handed a boost in their chase for a couple of Ajax youngsters. Football.london reports we were interested in Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong in the summer but no deal was done.
Ajax Sporting Director Marc Overmars has said that the pair could move at the end of the season. Speaking to Fox Sports (h/t Sport), the Dutch legend was quoted saying:
“We are realistic. After this season, we will lose two or three players.
“They have such a high level that we cannot keep them. However, it’s important for us to reinvest the money and replace the players who leave at the end of the season as best as possible.”
Overmars was quick to add that no player would leave in the winter window, irrespective of any offer that comes to the come.
The former Barcelona star added that the players are not pushing for a deal to move out of the club.
The Catalan giants were also linked with the pair and it will be interesting to see who wins the race for the players in the summer.
Tottenham have a history of signing players from Ajax with Christian Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen joining the club in recent years.
