Jan Vertonghen is contracted till the end of the season at Tottenham but the club have the option to extend his deal by another year, according to Football.london.
The Belgian defender is currently out with a hamstring injury and was asked by De Telegraaf (h/t Football.london) if he would return to former club Ajax one day.
“We’ll see what the future brings, but Ajax is in my heart and in my mind.
“I am now a Spurs player, feel very good and cannot say much about the future.”
The Belgian is one of the best defenders in the league and he seems to be happy at Spurs, for now. We have been linked (h/t Football.london) with another quality defender from the Dutch club in Matthijs de Ligt and Vertonghen had his say on the youngster too.
“He unbelievable. Hopefully he can extend the run, but what he is now showing is very impressive.”
The report adds that Spurs view De Ligt as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who is yet to extend his stay at the club. However, there are a number of clubs interested in De Ligt, with Manchester City and Barcelona keeping a tab on the Dutchman.
Vertonghen hasn’t featured for Spurs since our 2-0 win over Huddersfield at the end of September, and hopefully, the Belgian will return better than ever soon.
