Athletic Bilbao could provide Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente a return home due to their presidential elections, according to the Independent.

The Spaniard has struggled for goals and games at Tottenham since signing from Swansea City last season. Although the striker helped Harry Kane score in our 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven recently, Llorente is open to a move back to Spain.

Speaking after the win, the Spaniard was quoted by the Independent as saying:

“I’ve been away from home for many years.

“I’d love to go back to La Liga.”

The report suggests that the presidential candidates have already sounded out the player over a return to his former side. The report adds that candidates need to find “vote-winning” promises and a winter signing of Llorente is seen as an easy move.

The 33-year-old is a back-up to Harry Kane, and only has one start to his name this season. The former Swansea man hasn’t started any Premier League or Champions League games and has just four substitute appearances in those competitions this season.

Llorente’s contract is up at the end of the window, and the striker can negotiate with foreign clubs in January.

However, the elections in Bilbao could hasten up the deal and we could get some cash into the club. The Spaniard hasn’t been the greatest back-up for Kane, and hopefully, we find someone who can do the job from our youth system until the end of this season.
