Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Arsenal are not our biggest rivals at the moment. Tottenham face Chelsea on Saturday in an exciting London derby, and a win for Spurs will lift us above our rivals.
However, Spurs have had a huge rivalry with Arsenal but Pochettino believes that has changed. The manager was speaking to before the game on Saturday, and was quoted (h/t Mirror) saying:
“It’s a good signal our fans want more every season and with rivalry, always you look at the teams above you.
“For us, Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham have been our biggest rivals. But I think that has changed a bit because of our positions in the table.
“In the last few years Chelsea were always on the top and Arsenal, after 21 or 22 years, were below us again.”
Tottenham are ahead of Arsenal this season and have a chance of going above Chelsea with a win on Saturday.
Spurs seem to be getting better with every season under Pochettino while Arsenal have struggled for consistency in recent years.
Arsene Wenger gave way to Unai Emery in this campaign, and it is to be seen how the teams perform when they meet on in December.
Pochettino isn’t completely wrong suggesting that Chelsea are our nearest rivals at the moment, and hopefully, we will celebrate a win over them soon.
