Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that Tottenham will create a plan to ensure Kieran Trippier plays through an entire game.
The England right-back returned to the side in our 3-1 win over Southampton but had to be subbed late in the game.
Pochettino opened up about the plan for the right-back and told the Spurs website after training on Friday that the right-back wasn’t fit for the weekend’s game:
“He’s not available for Leicester. It’s common sense, normal after 48 hours (after Southampton) to give rest and try to assess.
“Now it’s good to create a plan for him to be right for the moment he’s going to play again, he can cope with 90 minutes, not like the previous game where we were always trying to manage the situation during the game because we’re thinking he cannot cope with 90 minutes.”
The manager added that the team needs to assess the 28-year-old but stopped short of guaranteeing that we could play Trippier without any risks.
“The most important thing now is to assess him, create a plan and make sure that the next time he’s available he can cope with 90 minutes and he can play without risk, although we appreciate it’s impossible to play 100 per cent without risk.”
Serge Aurier has done a decent job in place of Trippier this season, however, we need two fit full-backs to deal with our schedule.
We might have to play Kyle Walker-Peters in a few games but we need to ensure Trippier doesn’t spend a majority of the season out with an injury.
The Englishman had a great World Cup with the Three Lions but he hasn’t been able to tap into that form for Spurs this season.
