Tottenham have entered the race to sign Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, according to the Telegraph (h/t Mirror).

The Portugal international is on loan at Everton and has impressed under Marco Silva after a slow start to the season.

The report claims that the Toffees are interested in making the deal permanent but Tottenham will fight with them in the summer for the 25-year-old.

Gomes struggled at Barcelona after signing from Valencia but his form this season has been close to that he enjoyed at Los Che.

The deep-lying midfielder would be a great addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s side and he could offer us more creativity from the middle of the park.

Tottenham have several midfielders for their first-team but injuries have played havoc with our plans in recent years.

Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama have struggled with their fitness in recent seasons and we have rotated between Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko this season.

However, to reach the next level, we need to sign quality players and Gomes seems to be enjoying his first season in the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see how he performs for the rest of the season as Everton have been impressive under Silva.

We didn’t sign players in the previous summer window, and that cannot be the same story once the next summer transfer window comes calling.
