Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is open to extending his stay at the club and believes he can play for another four-five years.
The Belgian is out of contract at the end of the season, but Tottenham will exercise a one-year extension on his current deal. Speaking to Standard Sport, the Belgian wasn’t thinking about his future away from Spurs just yet.
“I’ve got a contract until 2020 — there’s an option and Tottenham will take that option.
“So I’ve got a year and a half left and then we’ll see. The way I feel now, I’ve got at least four to five good years left in the tank.”
The 31-year-old added that there haven’t been discussions over a new deal but they will take place.
“There are no talks [with the club], but that’s something to discuss. At the moment I feel great at Tottenham. It’s a club with unbelievable potential — not just the players but everything around it. Everyone wants to be part of it.”
The Belgian joined us from Ajax in 2013 and was open to a return there. Vertonghen spoke about how great the city is, and how he loves Amsterdam.
“You never know, but I’ve got a great passion for Ajax.”
The 31-year-old is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and there is no doubt we should be looking to extend his stay beyond his current deal.

Tottenham will find it difficult to replace someone like Vertonghen easily, and hopefully, he can lift a few trophies with us before he sets off and retires.
