Harry Winks is enjoying his playing time at Tottenham and recently spoke about Mauricio Pochettino pushing him through the pain barrier to play games.

The English midfielder is a life-long Spurs fan. He spoke about celebrating the 2008 League Cup win with his father (h/t Mirror) and revealed about the ankle problems which curtailed his season last time around.

“It originally happened a couple of seasons ago at Burnley and I came back, got myself fit which was great and I played in some big games against Real Madrid. But I was always playing with a little bit of pain but the time I felt it the most was after Rochdale away in the FA Cup.

“I remember the day after, I knew there was a problem there. I tried to play on for a couple of months afterwards and yet I was in and out of training eventually I decided it was time to go to Qatar, get some treatment out there and then have an operation.”

The youngster added that Pochettino pushed him to play through the injury issue, which was important for the 22-year-old’s development.

“It can toughen you up mentally and physically it was tough because of the ankle and I just needed to get through those moments.”

The Englishman further spoke about not being the most physical player and learning to hone his technical skills mirroring what the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta used to be in their time.

The 22-year-old also spoke about our style under Mauricio Pochettino and how the manager wants the team to play out from the back and not to change their philosophy even if the team is under pressure.
