The Tottenham management are not happy with the state of the area around the new stadium and are unwilling to pay for the cleaning of the region, according to the Observer (h/t Mirror).

The report adds that the club is the 11th richest in the world, but claim that the situation of littering is particularly poor around the new ground.

The top bosses at Spurs have made it clear they will not be funding the cleaning of the streets. The report adds that the confidential messages were seen by senior figures at Haringey Council, and one message said (h/t Mirror):

“Spurs were very dismissive as to the current state/appearance of Tottenham and implied that this was not an acceptable environment for their new stadium and supporters.”

Another message said that Spurs would not be spending extra to clean the streets:

“When the question of all the extra cleaning needed was raised and who would fund it was made very clear that it would not be paid for by Spurs.”

The estimate for cleaning the area after a match is £8,000, as per the report, but one Spurs spokesperson claimed the new stadium would help generate additional revenue:

“The larger new stadium will bring with it significantly larger business rates payments, which will more than cover increased post-match clean-up costs.”
