Moussa Sissoko has claimed that he wasn’t close to joining Everton on transfer deadline day, as suggested by certain reports.

The Mirror claims that Tottenham pipped the Everton to the signing of the Frenchman on the deadline day. However, Sissoko revealed that he was in contact with Ronald Koeman, the then Everton manager, but could not have an agreement on the last day of the transfer window (h/t Mirror):

“When I signed I was in the office with the chairman and I saw on the TV, ‘Sissoko was on his way to Everton, but then he went back and came to Tottenham’.

“It wasn’t true.”

The Frenchman claimed that Koeman had to speak with his agent, but nothing materialised.

“Before I signed here, I talked with Koeman, the manager of Everton, on the phone.

“He wanted me to join Everton and I said, ‘You have to speak with Newcastle and my agent, and if you find an agreement, why not?’

“On that day, we didn’t have anything.

“Then on the last day of the transfer window I came here and everything was nearly done with Tottenham.”

Sissoko has proved to be a valuable asset for the club this season and has helped us to a great start in the Premier League.

We are third in the table and need some help in catching the high-flying Liverpool. The Frenchman certainly is getting better with each game under his belt and it will be interesting to see how much he progresses by the end of the season.
