Former Arsenal star Martin Keown has urged Tottenham to spend in the winter window ahead of Son Heung-min’s departure for the Asian Cup.

The attacker has been fantastic for us in recent weeks but will miss a few games in January when he travels to the United Arab Emirates.

The Express reports that Spurs have negotiated with South Korean and Son will miss the first two games of the tournament.

However, the South Koreans are one of the strongest sides in the competition, and Son could miss three Premier League games and the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea (h/t Express).

With the South Korean set to leave, Keown told the Daily Mail (h/t Express):

“I think they do [need to spend].

“Son Heung-min has been outstanding this season but will travel to the Asian Cup after Tottenham’s clash with Manchester United on January 13.

“Spurs felt his absence when he was away with South Korea in August and he will be a huge loss to them again.”

The former Gunner added that we don’t have a lot of squad depth compared to Manchester City and Liverpool, and Mauricio Pochettino would have to work harder to get the best out of the players.

However, Keown claimed Poch believes he can win the title, and we seem to be doing a great job of chasing down Liverpool.

We have picked up incredible wins over Bournemouth and Everton recently but that was dampened by our loss to Wolves last night. However, we have to keep performing to our best even when Son goes for the Asian Cup.
