According to a report by Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Franck Kessie. The report claims that the player will exit AC Milan – where he is currently serving a two-year loan spell from Atalanta – if they do not qualify for the Champions League.
TMW revealed that Chelsea are also eyeing the 27-time capped Ivory Coast ace, who has been seemingly frozen out of the first-team by manager Gennaro Gattuso. Interestingly enough, Milan are obligated to purchase his services at the end of the loan deal but it does not look like he will receive adequate game time with the Serie A outfit anytime soon.
The 22-year-old would command a fee in the region of £36million, which is quite a hefty fee for a youngster. In 75 appearances for the Italian giants, Kessie has scored 8 goals and assisted a further 8.
Usually deployed at the base of the midfield, it goes without saying that the youngster would boost our depth considerably. With injuries and lack of form taking a toll on our midfield unit, Mauricio Pochettino needs extra hands on deck to ensure nothing affects the newfound wind beneath our sails.
However, the fact that Tottenham will face competition from Chelsea could prove to be a stumbling block. But considering the number of quality midfielders Maurizio Sarri has at his disposal, Kessie would be better served by moving to this side of London.
And of course, Pochettino’s reputation of developing and honing young talent should hopefully make Kessie’s decision easier.
