Mauricio Pochettino is unsure about Mousa Dembele’s future at the club as the Belgian’s contract comes to an end this season.
The 31-year-old has missed a major chunk of this season due to injuries, and the Express claims the midfielder has been linked with a move away from Tottenham for a while.
Dembele is free to speak with foreign clubs in January to seal a move on a free, but Tottenham could sell him in the winter window and make something from the deal.
However, Pochettino was in the dark about the next step for Dembele and said (h/t Express):
“I don’t know, that is going to be a club decision, of course, involved with the player and the people that are with him.
“At the moment I don’t have any news.”
Dembele is quality when fit but his injury problems have been well known for a few years. The last time he played for Tottenham was in our 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in November.
Tottenham are a little thin on fit midfielders this season with Eric Dier out after an appendix surgery and Victor Wanyama seemingly injured always.
Dembele could do a job for us in the remaining months of the campaign, and it will be interesting to see if we keep him beyond this season or allow him to leave soon.
