Italian journalist Ciro Venerato has claimed that Tottenham are contenders to sign Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen.
The 22-year-old is one of the rising stars in the Serie A, and the journalist stated that we are ready to spend huge on the Dane while speaking to Rai Sport (h/t Express):
“Joachim Andersen? Yes there are some teams who have expressed interest in him as he has been doing well in the Serie A.
“Tottenham are one of these teams as they have a 40 million euros [£36m] offer ready for him.”
Venerato believed Tottenham would move for the Dane in the summer transfer window and claimed that Sampdoria have a replacement ready in mind. There is some competition for the 22-year-old as the journalist added that Inter Milan are keeping tabs on Andersen.
Tottenham didn’t spend in the summer and Mauricio Pochettino claimed it is unlikely we will dip into the winter window too.
Andersen is a player for the future and could develop well under the Argentine. Tottenham have a few quality young defenders in Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez, but we need further cover for Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
This season has seen us struggle with injuries, with Vertonghen and Sanchez missing good chunks of the campaign.
It will be interesting to see if we finalise a move for the defender in the summer given that we have a history of spending big on defenders, as we did with Sanchez a couple of years ago.
