Tottenham have been linked with a move for League One sensation Josh Maja (h/t Evening Standard) and the player is out of contract at the end of this campaign.
The report adds that several clubs want to sign the 20-year-old striker on a cut-price deal in January, however, Sunderland manager Jack Ross has claimed that the club don’t need to sell in the winter window.
Speaking after the draw against Charlton, the manager said (h/t Evening Standard):
“The situation, there is no duress upon us at the moment, to get rid of him or anything like, from the owner or my perspective as a manager.”
The manager added that Maja has not spoken about leaving the side at the moment, and has only chosen not to extend his stay at the Stadium of Light.
Maja has been in excellent form this season with 14 goals from 24 league games. The 20-year-old could be a decent option for us given Mauricio Pochettino’s ability to develop young talent.
It would be a huge jump for the youngster to play in the Premier League but Tottenham got a great deal with Dele Alli, who followed a similar route a few years ago.
Tottenham have other striker options in Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen to cover Harry Kane but neither has done well for us since joining the club.
Llorente did score a hat-trick in our FA Cup win over Tranmere but the likes of Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura can also play as a striker for the Lilywhites. Overall, Maja would be a good long-term investment and not an immediate solution.
