Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino claimed he trusts Christian Eriksen and compared that to a walk with his dog.

The Dane is out of contract in 18 months and Pochettino was hopeful of the 26-year-old penning a new deal.

The Argentine further spoke about the Dane signing a new deal but harped upon the timing to be right (h/t Sky Sports):

“He is ready to wait. Maybe sign this week, maybe sign in six months.

“For me, it is not a point to discuss. He is very committed with us and he is playing so well. He is a great player and I am so happy with him.”

Pochettino claimed that Eriksen needs freedom on the pitch to express himself, and he should not be shackled in a particular role.

The Spurs manager then brought out a bizarre comparison related to walking his dog in the park:

“You cannot put him in a box to play, you need to give freedom and trust in him.

“It’s like my dog in the park – I say, ‘go, I trust in you!’. Christian, you need to trust in him.”

Eriksen is one of the best in the world and we need to keep him at all costs. The 26-year-old came back from the World Cup with an injury but is close to his best.

Tottenham lie just six points behind Liverpool in the league table and face a stern test against Manchester United at Wembley.

The Dane will be one of the keys in defeating United at the weekend as we look to keep the pressure on the Reds.
