Bournemouth want to keep hold of Welsh youngster David Brooks with interest from two Premier League sides, according to the Sun. The 21-year-old Welshman joined the Cherries from Sheffield United and has been fantastic for Eddie Howe with five goals and two assists in the Premier League this season.
The Sun claims that Tottenham are “long-term” admirers of Brooks and tried to sign the youngster from Sheffield before he joined the Cherries.
Tottenham face competition from Manchester United for the Bournemouth star and the report adds that both clubs are willing to pay £40million for the 21-year-old.
Bournemouth are willing to double his wages to £50,000-a-week to ensure he stays on the south coast, according to the report.
The 21-year-old is versatile enough to play in several positions in the midfield and has the potential to develop into a quality player under the right manager. United have one advantage in tracking Brooks, with the youngster playing under former star Ryan Giggs at international level.
Mauricio Pochettino is one of the best managers in the world and has developed several players during his time in England. Spurs didn’t sign any player in the summer, but things need to change before the start of next season. Tottenham need options for their midfield and attack given the injury concerns regarding Victor Wanyama.
