Tottenham star Christian Eriksen is unlikely to pen a new deal with Tottenham, according to AS (h/t Sun). The report quotes a source claiming that a deal between Eriksen and Spurs would be “very, very difficult”.

The Danish attacker and Spurs have been locked in negotiations over a new contract and Eriksen’s current deal lasts till 2020.

The report adds that Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino want to keep hold of the Danish star, however, they could be tempted into cashing in on the star in the summer as he reaches the final year of his contract. The 26-year-old joined Tottenham from Ajax in 2013 and has become one of the best in the Premier League.

Pochettino had recently claimed that he trusts Eriksen but believed the Dane had the right to choose his future. However, Eriksen’s agent has stepped away from all talk of a transfer and claimed that his client wants to focus on football and see “what the future brings” (h/t Sun).

Replacing Eriksen would be a mammoth task as there are very few players with the same ability as the former Ajax star has. The 26-year-old has been in great form recently but could not help us avoid a defeat against Manchester United.

Eriksen isn’t the only player with a contract problem as Tottenham extended the deal of Toby Alderweireld by a year but he can leave the club for a relatively low price of £25m in the summer (h/t Guardian).
