Mauricio Pochettino believes Dele Alli’s injury could be serious but backed a teammate to perform in place of the Englishman.
Alli picked up the hamstring injury late in the second half as Spurs were tied at 1-1 against Fulham. The former MK Dons star had scored the equaliser and is the second big name to pick up a serious injury in recent games.
Harry Kane is expected to be out till mid-March due to ankle ligament damage. Pochettino wasn’t optimistic about Alli’s injury either (h/t Telegraph):
“The hamstring is a muscle where you need to be careful. We need to assess him in the next few days but it doesn’t look great.
“We can all agree that when he put his hands on his hamstring it’s a situation where he has felt a pull. It’s not great to see that. It’s not a worry – it’s a massive opportunity for a different player.”
The manager expected the team to win our next game despite it being the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea. Spurs hold a slender lead in the tie, thanks to a 1-0 win in the first leg. It will be interesting to see how we line-up.
Alli is important for the team and it will be difficult to replace the Englishman. The former MK Dons man has had injury problems earlier in the season and Pochettino has to dig deep to find a solution in his absence.
Moussa Sissoko and Lucas Moura are also carrying knocks but there was some good news for Tottenham as Eric Dier came off the bench for a few minutes against the Cottagers.
