Real Madrid could use James Rodriguez in the deal to sign Christian Eriksen from Tottenham, according to the Independent (h/t Football.london).
The Colombian has been on loan at Bayern Munich for two seasons and is set to return to the Spanish giants at the end of this campaign.
The 27-year-old has scored three goals and provided three assists for the Bundesliga giants this season, and the report adds that Real would be looking to sell the Colombian next season.
Eriksen has a contract till 2020, and there has been no progress regarding a new deal at Tottenham. The report adds that there is interest from Napoli and Arsenal for Rodriguez, with the Gunners contacting Real over the Colombian.
Rodriguez was one of the stars in the 2014 World Cup, but his performances for Real haven’t been great since his switch from Monaco.
The Colombian can play across the midfield in an attacking role and would make a fantastic signing for Tottenham given the South American connection with manager Mauricio Pochettino.
However, Rodriguez should not be seen as the replacement for Eriksen as the Dane is one of the most creative players in the world.
Eriksen is playing some great football, and will only get better with more games under his belt while Rodriguez needs a kick-start to get his confidence back.
The Colombian has put in some fantastic performances for Bayern, however, he isn’t as consistent as the Dane is.
Ideally, we need to keep Eriksen in the side and sign some quality attackers to provide Mauricio Pochettino options to mix his team around.
Spurs haven’t signed anyone this season, and it seems unlikely we will do that in the winter window too.
