England manager Gareth Southgate believes Harry Kane’s absence from the Tottenham team won’t do any harm to the striker.
The Tottenham forward injured ankle ligaments in the 1-0 loss to Manchester United and is ruled out till mid-March.
The England captain is set to miss several games for Spurs, which would come as a big blow for us. Tottenham face a bit of a crisis since Son Heung-min is away on international duty and Dele Alli also picked up an injury in the 2-1 win over Fulham at the weekend.
Southgate was speaking at the Football Writers’ Association Gala Tribute Dinner. He claimed that he already spoke with Kane and will contact him later in the week (h/t Sun).
The England manager added that no player would want to miss games, adding that it is the same with Kane as the captain just wants to score goals.
Southgate added that Kane would already be planning his return and this break will not hurt the Tottenham star:
“But knowing his mindset, there will be a calendar on the wall and he will be making sure he is back ahead of where people are predicting.
“The break won’t do him any harm.”
Mauricio Pochettino has some decisions to make about the striker’s role after Fernando Llorente struggled against Fulham.
