Mauricio Pochettino has once again criticised VAR and wants the Premier League to delay its introduction.
The technology will be implemented from next season’s Premier League with clubs agreeing “in principle” to the move (h/t Sky Sports).
Pochettino was unhappy with the VAR when Tottenham won a penalty against Chelsea in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final and wants it to be delayed until the system is made better (h/t Sky Sports):
“For me, I think it is a good idea to delay because if we don’t have all the information and don’t know how it will work or how we can better develop the system, it is better to stop for one year or more.
“That is my opinion if people ask me – I don’t know if Daniel (Levy) will ask me or the Premier League.”
The manager added that no one is happy with the system and was worried the VAR will annoy fans as they wait for decisions to be taken.
The Argentine further claimed that football is about mistakes, and it is up to the referee to make a judgement call on certain incidents.
Pochettino does make valid points about the system needing to be made better and lauded goal-line technology.
The current VAR system isn’t quick enough when making calls, and there is a lot of ambiguity for fans in the stadium as they don’t really know what is going on.

It will be interesting to see if the technology can be enhanced leading to quicker decisions and reduce the length of stoppages in play.
