Tottenham exited their second cup competition in less than four days after Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win in the FA Cup. Mauricio Pochettino rotated his side, similar to what Roy Hodgson did for Palace and in the end, it was the home team that came out on top.

Spurs dominated the early proceedings, but Palace took a shock lead through Connor Wickham. The English striker pounced on a save from Paulo Gazzaniga to score from three yards out.

Tottenham tried to ramp up the pressure but the team wasn’t linking up well. Things took a turn for the worse when Kyle Walker-Peters handled a cross and Palace were awarded a penalty.

Former Tottenham attacker Andros Townsend smashed home the spot-kick and did not celebrate the goal. Tottenham were handed a lifeline after a penalty was awarded before half-time. However, Kieran Trippier blasted the ball wide from the spot.

Tottenham had a few chances to score past Julian Speroni, but the Palace keeper was doing a great job at the back. Spurs huffed and puffed but could not blow the Palace defence away and Hodgson picked up another huge scalp for the season.

Tottenham were decimated by injuries before the game, but several fans weren’t happy with the result. Many wanted the club to spend money in the transfer window, while some could not accept another defeat in a cup competition.
