Tottenham seem to have fended off interest from Real Madrid for Christian Eriksen, according to AS (h/t Football.london). The Dane has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants and talks over a new deal at Spurs have stalled, according to the report.

The midfielder is out of contract in 2020 and the report adds that Tottenham want the 26-year-old to sign a new deal before he enters the final year of his current contract.

The report adds that Madrid believe Daniel Levy has slapped a huge transfer fee on the Dane, and have decided to pursue other targets.

This will come as great news for Spurs as the pair of Dele Alli and Harry Kane have already penned long-term contracts with the club recently.

Eriksen is one of the best in the world and we need to keep hold of the Dane at all costs. Madrid certainly is a tempting move for any player in the world but there is a lot of upheaval at the La Liga club. Julen Lopetegui was replaced by Santiago Solari, and the La Liga giants don’t seem to be in great form this season.

Tottenham, on the other hand, are growing under Pochettino. The Argentine has made us one of the best teams in the world, and we are challenging for the top honours regularly.

This season has been hampered by injuries to several players, Eriksen included, but we still have a chance of claiming a trophy.
