Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that the club have to create their own players and cannot buy like Liverpool and Manchester City.
Spurs haven’t made a signing since Lucas Moura joined us last January, and Pochettino has seen stars such as Dele Alli, Harry Kane, Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp become a part of the first-team.
The Argentine was speaking to ESPN FC and compared our situation with Liverpool and Spurs:
“Due to a number of circumstances, we’ve tried to produce young players with great futures such as Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, [Kieran] Trippier or Harry Winks.
“We are creating players. But in this case, Liverpool need a defender, they get [Virgil] van Dijk. They need a goalkeeper, who’s the best? Alisson. It’s the same as Manchester City.”
The Argentine added that this situation feels similar to Real Madrid and Barcelona buying players since they are on a “different level”.
Pochettino has a history of coming up with bizarre analogies and produced another one when speaking about dryers and washing machines.
“At the moment, Tottenham haven’t reached that level, so when we can’t buy a washing machine, we get a dryer that can do the same job. Instead of a sofa, we get a chair where you can also sit. That’s the difference between Tottenham and the teams that are built to win.”
Pochettino has worked wonders for the team as we are battling for a top-four position at the moment. The wheels fell off the wagon a bit, but we were contenders for the Premier League crown a few months ago. Spurs still are in the Champions League and it is imperative we play in the competition next season too.
Pochettino has had his hands tied regarding moves in the transfer window, however, the Argentine has done a great job in developing talent at Tottenham.

It will be tough to challenge City and Liverpool if we cannot spend and hopefully, that changes sooner than later under Poch’s tenure.
