Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that the stadium situation has affected Tottenham this season. Spurs were expected to play in the new venue in September, however, we are set to play all our home games at Wembley until February.
Another announcement is expected on the status of the new ground, however, Pochettino was positive about the situation.
The Argentine claimed he didn’t know when the team would play at the new home, and understood the disappointment of the fans. The manager explained that it was his job to keep the spirit of the team up even though things aren’t going well at the national stadium (h/t Sky Sports):
“Of course, it is a massive disappointment for everybody. First of all for Daniel [Levy] and the board, that they cannot deliver the job on time.
“Then you can see for our fans at Wembley every week that things are going down and down and down because people are disappointed with the situation.
“And of course, that affects the team and everybody. That is why it is my responsibility to be positive and optimistic.”
Pochettino asked the fans for their support as Spurs look to qualify for the Champions League once again. Tottenham lie third in the Premier League and are still in Europe.
However, things didn’t go well last week, with losses in both domestic cup competitions. Spurs will be playing their first leg of Champions League round of 16 against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, and it will be interesting to see how we perform in some of these crunch games.
