Son Heung-min of Tottenham

Son Heung-min

Tottenham scored another late goal in the Premier League to pick up a win over Newcastle United. The moment came in the 83rd minute as Son Heung-min lashed in from outside the box, and provided Spurs with a huge boost for the remainder of the campaign.

For most of the afternoon, it seemed like Newcastle would hold on for the point after their shock win over Manchester City in the midweek. Spurs had their chances, with Lucas Moura and Fernando Llorente missing gilt-edged opportunities, but Son came up with the magic late in the second half. Newcastle had their chances too but Spurs just about held on for a crucial win.

The win puts us second on the table, one point ahead of Manchester City, and we are firmly in the race for the title. Liverpool and City need to watch their backs as we seem to have resilience in the team, and there were some quality performances at Wembley.

Tottenham Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris – 7/10

Lloris didn’t have much to do in the first half but made some important saves in the second to keep a clean sheet.

Jan Vertonghen – 7.5/10

The Belgian did a decent job as the left-back and was later played in a back-three to keep things tight.

Davinson Sanchez – 7/10

The Colombian had a chance to score early on but missed his header. He did a great job in keeping Salomon Rondon fairly quiet.

Toby Alderweireld – 7.5/10

Another quality outing from the Belgian as he ensured Newcastle couldn’t do much when they tried to attack him.

Kieran Trippier – 6.5/10

The Englishman started well but his crossing wasn’t great throughout the game.

Harry Winks – 8/10

Another industrious display from the Englishman as he ran his socks off and tried to get the team going.

Moussa Sissoko – 7.5/10

The Frenchman had a great chance to score but was denied by a great save from the Newcastle keeper. The midfielder had another decent outing for Tottenham.

Son Heung-min – 8/10

Son started brightly but faded in and out of the game. His strike wasn’t great as the Newcastle keeper should have done better, but it is an important goal.

Christian Eriksen – 7/10

Eriksen’s set-pieces weren’t great but he could have scored a couple had it not been for some last-ditch defending from Newcastle.

Lucas Moura – 5.5/10

Moura struggled up front and missed a glorious chance early on. He was replaced after an hour as Spurs looked to win the game.

Erik Lamela – 6/10

Lamela hit the crossbar with a header and had a great first half. He fizzled out in the second and was replaced later on.

Substitutes

Fernando Llorente – 6/10

Llorente chested the ball down for Son to lash it in, and also headed high over the bar as he blamed the sun for the miss.

Danny Rose – NA

Came on late to provide some more protection to the side.

Spurs transfer news: Arsenal set to beat Tottenham in landing Dani Ceballos

Football.london reports that Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos.

The 22-year-old was one of the stars for Spain in their U21 Euro winning squad, the report claims that the midfielder could be sold in the summer after Real made several big signings.

The report adds that AC Milan and Liverpool are also interested in the 22-year-old, however, AS (h/t Football.london) claimed that Spurs had agreed on a loan deal to land the Spaniard.

However, the outlet adds that Ceballos will reject a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and join the Gunners instead (h/t Football.london).

The report adds that the interest from Unai Emery was the key to them landing Ceballos, and the Spaniard wants to play at the Emirates Stadium.

A blow for Tottenham’s summer plans

Ceballos would do a great job under Mauricio Pochettino, and it is interesting to note that Arsenal seem to be winning the race for the Spaniard.

The Gunners do not have Champions League football on their side, and the report adds that Ceballos wants to start games regularly next season.

The 22-year-old wasn’t picked regularly under Zinedine Zidane last season, and he might get more games under Emery than Pochettino. Spurs have only signed Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke in the summer, and can do with another quality midfielder joining the side.

Not Trippier – La Liga giants interested in another Tottenham star as well

Spurs transfer news: Atletico Madrid interested in Christian Eriksen

Atletico Madrid might be close to landing Kieran Trippier, however, he isn’t the only Tottenham star they are eyeing (h/t Football.london).

The Evening Standard (h/t Football.london) claims that Christian Eriksen is in the sights of the La Liga side as they search for a playmaker.

The report adds that Real Madrid are also interested in the 27-year-old Dane, who has just one year left on his current deal.

The midfielder had claimed he wanted to take up a new challenge after the Champions League final, however, he still is a Tottenham player.

Atletico have seen several players leave in the summer, with Rodri joining Manchester City. Juanfran also exited the club, and the biggest transfer has to be that of Antoine Griezmann’s.

The French attacker completed his move to Barcelona recently, and it will be interesting to see who Atletico can sign before the start of the season.

Will Eriksen fit into Atletico’s style?

The Dane is one of the most creative players in the Premier League and would do well at a top club.

Atletico aren’t known for their intricate style of play in the final third, and it is difficult to see how Eriksen would fit into Diego Simeone’s plans.

Staying at Tottenham would be a better decision for the Dane than joining Atletico, however, it will be interesting to see if Simeone’s team submits a quality offer for the Dane.

It would be great to keep Eriksen at the club and extend his deal, but the next best option is to sell him to a non-Premier League club.

Spurs transfer news: Tottenham committed to signing Ryan Sessegnon

The Telegraph reports that Tottenham are committed to signing Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.

The 19-year-old is one of the brightest talents in the English game but saw his side suffer relegation last season.

Sessegnon was inconsistent at Fulham and ended up playing under three managers in the span of 12 months.

Danny Rose Tottenham

The English youngster is versatile enough to play as a leftwinger or as a left-back, and the report claims that Tottenham see the 19-year-old as a long-term successor of Danny Rose.

Tottenham’s Rose was one of our better performers in the previous campaign and started in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

However, the Englishman hinted he could leave in the summer after claiming that Tottenham sell off players who reach a certain age.

Fulham need to sell Sessegnon soon

The report adds that Fulham have to sell Sessegnon in the summer, with the English youngster having just one year left on his current deal.

Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon also prefers a move to Tottenham, according to the Telegraph, and hopefully, we can make him our third signing of the summer.

Tottenham could use someone of Sessegnon’s ability and the English youngster should grow under Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs transfer news: Fans react to Atletico Madrid agreeing on a deal for Trippier

Sky Sports claims that Atletico Madrid have agreed on a €24m move for Kieran Trippier.

The English defender is set to be in Spain on Wednesday to complete a medical with the La Liga club, and the report claims that the deal could be finalised by the weekend.

Kieran Trippier

The report adds that Tottenham were offered attacker Angel Correa in the deal, but Tottenham opted for a cash deal.

The English defender had an inconsistent campaign for Spurs last time around but no one can doubt his commitment to the cause. The right-back came off a wonderful World Cup campaign with the Three Lions, but could not carry that form into the club season.

Tottenham left with a minor problem

Spurs would only have Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters as the senior right-backs in the side should Trippier leave. That could be a problem given that Aurier’s previous season was littered with injuries.

Spurs could do with another right-back coming in and providing cover for the duo.

Many fans highlighted that Trippier just could not cut it at Tottenham while some were pleased that Spurs were getting a good deal for the Englishman. Some fans were supportive of Trippier’s decision to take up a new challenge, and here are a few reactions to the transfer:
