Davinson Sanchez has revealed that he enjoys keeping clean sheets and said that scoring isn’t the most “important thing”. The Colombian has become a regular since his move from Ajax but is yet to find the back of the net for Spurs.

The 22-year-old was close to scoring in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United, but told the official club website that keeping the opposition out was just as important:

“I was close (to scoring), but that’s not the most important thing.

“I enjoy it more when I help to keep a clean sheet like in this game, not like last week when we conceded against Watford. We are happier when we score but we also keep a clean sheet.”

Son Heung-min scored a late winner against the Magpies and Sanchez added that he did his job by keeping Salomon Rondon in check.

“(Rondon) is a strong guy and he always tries to muscle his way past you. We knew that Newcastle can also get those runs in behind the defence and we had to be ready to prevent that.”

The win kept our hopes alive of winning the Premier League as we are just five points behind faltering Liverpool. The defender highlighted that Tottenham have to keep winning and enjoy the season. Our next clash is against a tough Leicester City side.

The Foxes hold wins over Manchester City and Chelsea, and they drew against Liverpool recently. The key to winning the game would be to keep Leicester from scoring and if Sanchez plays to his best, the away side won’t find the back of the net.
