Tottenham fear they will lose out on Adrien Rabiot, with Liverpool and Barcelona interested in the French midfielder, according to the Daily Star.

The report adds that Spurs were “heavily” into a deal to land the 23-year-old for £20m in January. However, the move was called off as Rabiot’s father passed away a few days before the end of the transfer window.

The family of the midfielder decided to put a transfer on hold as a mark of respect, according to the report. Rabiot’s mother and agent, Veronique, also declared there would be no move until the summer.

The French midfielder has fallen out of favour at the Ligue 1 club and has not featured for them since the Champions League away game against Red Star Belgrade in December. The 23-year-old is a free agent at the end of the campaign and is one of the brightest talents in Ligue 1.

Adrien Rabiot of PSG

The report adds that the midfielder has been suspended by the French club after he refused to sign a new deal. There is interest from another London club, with Arsenal keeping tabs on Rabiot too (h/t Daily Star). Unai Emery has managed the player during his time at PSG and could join the race for the 23-year-old.

The additional interest will be a worry for Tottenham given that we haven’t signed any player since Lucas Moura more than a year ago. However, one thing that could work in our favour is our relationship with PSG and the presence of Serge Aurier and Moura.

Spurs also have a couple of French stars in the team let’s hope the quartet can do their bit and lure Rabiot to the club.
