Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Tottenham could move for Daniel Sturridge
Daniel Sturridge could be a target for Tottenham in the summer as they look for Harry Kane’s cover, according to the Mirror (h/t Sky Sports).
The England and Liverpool striker’s contract ends at Anfield in the summer, and it remains to be seen whether the Reds offer him a new deal. If not, then he will be a free agent.
Sturridge has seen limited game time for the Jurgen Klopp’s men, having started just four Premier League and Champions League games all season.
The Englishman has scored just four goals in the campaign and has played second fiddle to Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino when it comes to strikers pecking order.
Sturridge is still one of the best finishers in the game, however, his injury history would be a concern for any team signing him.
A decent option to have on the bench?
Tottenham have stuck with Fernando Llorente as the replacement for the injured Kane this season, and the Spaniard hasn’t done a bad job.
However, Sturridge would not be a poor signing in the summer given that he comes on a free. The only issue would be his fitness. But anyway, he won’t be guaranteed to start many games as well.
Kane is our number one, and there are very few strikers who can do a job better than him at the moment. On the other hand, Sturridge is entering the twilight of his career, and maybe a role as a back-up would suit him. He might get more playing time under Mauricio Pochettino though.

Tottenham didn’t sign anybody in the last two transfer windows, and it will be interesting to see whether we loosen the purse strings this summer.
