Latest Tottenham news: Arsene Wenger compares current side to Manchester United’s Class of ‘92
Tottenham were supreme in their 3-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund in the first leg round of 16 tie, and won plaudits from former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Son Heung-min started the scoring in the second half before goals from Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente put the polish on the scoreline.
The Frenchman was speaking BEIN Sports (h/t Mirror) and believed this Spurs side has the hallmarks of that great team that won several titles under Sir Alex Ferguson. The Class of ‘92 also formed the bedrock for the team that won the historic treble in 1999, and Wenger found it a little hard to praise Mauricio Pochettino’s men (h/t Mirror):
“I am an Arsenal fan so it is a bit of a sensitive subject for me but what I want to say is that they have the generations of young players.
“They look like the Manchester United generation of Giggs, Scholes, Butt, Beckham and Neville. They made it to the complete top.”
Wenger knows about Tottenham due to his time in the Premier League and believed Spurs have to show a “maturity” that has been lacking.
Trophies are the next step for Spurs
The Frenchman also rightly claimed that winning trophies is the next step for Tottenham, but added it is tough to win them in England. The former Gunners manager highlighted his last trophy where he had to beat Manchester City and Chelsea to lift the FA Cup.
Spurs put out a statement of intent by dismantling Dortmund, and we should be confident of doing well in the second leg too.

Pochettino hasn’t won a trophy so far as Tottenham manager but we seem set to break that duck sooner than later.
