Latest Tottenham news: Fernando Llorente open to staying at Tottenham

Fernando Llorente came off the bench to score the third goal in our 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. The win gave us a huge advantage ahead of the second leg round of 16 clash and the Spaniard claimed he does not have plans to leave Tottenham.

The former Athletic Bilbao striker has been linked with a return to his former club (h/t Independent), however, the Spaniard is happy at Tottenham:

“I don’t know anything. The truth is I’m very satisfied here in Spurs, I haven’t thought about leaving.

“I’m at a great club, I still have a contract, and my intention is to win trophies here. Right now, I’m enjoying a good moment, and I hope I can keep scoring goals and everything keeps going well.”

Llorente has had his troubles with scoring off the bench, and the Independent claimed that his goal against Dortmund was the first time he scored as a substitute after signing for Spurs.

Llorente doing a decent job for Spurs

Although the Spaniard is seen as a game changer for Spurs, he has had to be content with a lot of time on the bench. Llorente has deputised for Harry Kane in the starting XI since the Englishman is out injured.

The Spaniard has done a decent job this season with seven goals and four assists in all competitions this season and has been involved in five goals in his last four appearances for Spurs.

The 33-year-old could have a huge role to play even after Kane returns from his injury, and the goal off the bench would have provided Llorente with a lot of confidence for the remainder of the season.

Jose Mourinho remains coy on Gareth Bale transfer possibility

Jose Mourinho didn’t say much when asked about signing Real Madrid star Gareth Bale.

Mourinho was speaking to the press after the 2-1 loss to his former club Manchester United. Dele Alli scored a fantastic goal but Marcus Rashford’s brace got the home side the win.

Tottenham weren’t poor in that game, but that cutting edge in the final third was missing.

Mourinho was told about Bale’s comments from earlier where he expected Tottenham to win trophies under the new manager.

The manager thanked Bale for those words and replied to a question about the Welshman joining Spurs (h/t Football.london):

“Come on, I don’t need to answer.”

Bale has had his problems at Real Madrid with the fans and the manager. Zinedine Zidane hasn’t seen eye to eye with the Welsh winger while the fans have also booed him in the past.

The 30-year-old could be a smart addition to the team, but his age and durability is a problem.

It will be interesting to see who we can sign in the winter window. Spurs have been low-key spenders in the past but that could change with Mourinho at the helm.

Defence a big issue for Spurs

There are pressing concerns for the manager though. We have leaked goals this season and have conceded twice in every game under the new boss.

Mourinho is known for making the defence almost impenetrable, and that is something he needs to work on.

The loss also put us nine points behind Chelsea in the race for the fourth spot. Our next clash is a home game against Burnley before our final Champions League group game against Bayern Munich.

Lyon to offer Tottenham-linked Memphis Depay a new deal

Lyon forward Memphis Depay has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, according to the Express.

The Dutch international failed at Manchester United before resurrecting his career at Lyon. Depay is now a regular for the national side and has also been one of the most consistent stars for the French side.

Liverpool and United have also been linked with the 25-year-old (h/t Express). However, Lyon are planning to offer Depay a new deal.

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas was speaking to BeIN Sports and shared the plans. The president, however, did confirm that Depay would have to decide his future (h/t Express):

“We will make him a contract extension offer because he is an exceptional player.

“He will be the one who will ultimately decide. He is a sweet boy, an interesting man.”

Depay shining for Lyon

The Dutch international has scored 11 goals this season for the club. He has also been great in the Champions League and has featured in most of Holland’s games during the international breaks.

Depay seems to have adjusted well to Ligue 1 and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move again.

His experience with United should help him adjust to the Premier League better than he did the first time.

Dele Alli

Spurs could do with another attacker joining, but our defence has been a problem too. We have conceded eight goals from four games since Jose Mourinho took over.

Dele Alli also seems to have found his scoring touch in front of goal and was on target against at Old Trafford.

Depay could provide cover for several positions and Tottenham have to act quick if they want to land the Dutch talent.

Tottenham keen on landing Lorenzo Pellegrini and Ben Godfrey

Tottenham are planning to sign two youngsters as Jose Mourinho’s rebuild of the squad is yet to begin.

It will be interesting to see if we make any moves in the winter window, however, there are two targets already on Spurs’ radar.

Calciomercato (h/t Guardian) claims that Lorenzo Pellegrini is an option for Mourinho’s side. The 23-year-old has been one of the most consistent players for AS Roma over the past two years.

Pellegrini has six assists from eight Serie A games this season and is a regular for the Italy national team too.

The 23-year-old is capable of playing as an attacking midfielder but has also featured as a left-winger for Roma this season.

Spurs are also looking at another rising talent, but this starlet is far closer to home.

Norwich starlet on the radar

Daniel Farke has some quality players in his Norwich side and Ben Godfrey is a target for Spurs (h/t Guardian).

The English centre-back has featured in all 15 of Norwich’s Premier League games this season and has impressed.

The Canaries haven’t been consistent this season and are in a relegation battle. However, Godfrey has been one of the better performers for the promoted side.

The youngster could solve our centre-back issues as Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are free agents in the summer.

Godfrey still is a raw talent but Mourinho is the perfect manager to get the best out of a rising defender.

Jose Mourinho confirms Bruno Fernandes transfer isn’t on for Tottenham

New Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has shut down rumours of Bruno Fernandes joining the club.

The Portuguese midfielder was excellent for Sporting Lisbon in the previous season and Spurs were close to landing him.

The Mirror claims that Spurs’ offer of £58million failed in the summer due to the structuring of the deal.

Fernandes wanted to leave Sporting, however, Mourinho told Sport TV (h/t Mirror) that the midfielder isn’t right for the club:

“We are a different club at this level.”

The manager also spoke about the financial aspect of the deal and wasn’t sure of Spurs making big moves:

“We are not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor is it going towards players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically.

“I would definitely say no because Bruno (Fernandes) is a player of a level and value that is not for us.”

Other clubs keen on Fernandes

The 25-year-old recently signed a new deal with the Portugal club but that hasn’t stopped Manchester United.

The report claims that the Red Devils are keen on landing the goal-scoring midfielder.

Any club keen on landing Fernandes would have to deal with his £85m release clause, and that could have scared Spurs off (h/t Mirror).

It will be interesting to see what our plans are for the winter window. We sit six points behind the fourth-placed side in the table, and the right kind of investment can ensure Champions League football next year too.

Spurs were struggling before Mourinho came but now we have won our last three games. Our defence is still a concern after conceding six goals in those clashes.
